Manhattan Early Childhood Center
The Manhattan Early Childhood Center serves school - age students grades K through 2nd, preschoolers with special needs as well as typically developing four year olds through a variety of programs. Preschool Special Education Special Classes Ranging in size from 6 to 12 students Integrated Special Classes Ranging in size from 12 to 16 students Universal Pre-Kindergarten Full Day for 4 year old students School Age Annex 2 Special Classes Ranging in size from 6 to 8 students Chronological Age Range: 5 years to 7 years. Population We Serve: We serve children with a broad array of special needs including speech impairments, learning disabilities, neurological impairments, developmental disabilities, emotional/behavioral challenges and autism. We also provide an innovative pre-kindergarten program to typically developing students through UPK. We are a non-accessible site, so students must be able to walk and manage stairs independently in order to attend. Services: In addition to an intensive, language rich special education program, students may also receive additional related services including speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and counseling. Parents are encouraged to volunteer in the program and participate in training opportunities. All services are provided in both Spanish and English. Transportation: Door-to-door bussing is provided for all special education students. About Us: We are a vibrant, community program located in a beautiful neighborhood in Washington Heights. The majority of our staff reside in the larger neighborhood and are typically bilingual, speaking both Spanish and English. We have a large, diverse group of talented special educators and clinicians who provide a warm, nurturing environment for our young students to thrive in. Our classrooms are rich in technology, literacy based programs, visual supports, music therapy, gardening and nutritional instructional supports.
